Equine Dental

Horses grind their teeth when the eat and in doing so form sharp edges along all upper and lower teeth.  This can cause multiple problems such as

  • pain in the mouth or on the bit when being ridden (observed by tossing head)
  • inability to eat properly  (this can lead to weight loss, observed by food dropping from mouth when eating)

We offer basic dentistry work in the form of floating teeth, which is the rasping of the sharp edges of the teeth.   We do this in a safe manner using safe sedations for both horse and people and use full mouth gags.

If you use a lay dentist but require help with a more complex case we are happy to help with sedation and anaesthetics where required.  Please feel free to talk to us to plan these jobs well in advance.
